Marbling

Faux marble now can be seen on moldings, doors, panels; surfaces where you would not see actual marble. Marbling is not applied anymore only to the surfaces where the look of the real marble was desired but not affordable. There are many colors and appearances of marble you can choose from, as it is a naturally occuring stone. To achieve marble look you just study the veins and patterns in the piece of marble you want to simulate, and layer on the colors you see using tools such as a sea sponge, a bag, a rag, a brush, and a feather- best for creating veins

Sponging

SPONGING ON - is a faux paint effect as latex paint is added with a sea sponge [plastic bag - bagging on] to the surface by pouncing lightly in a random place. It is better when the lighter color comes as the base, but colors you chose should contrast well. To achieve that colors should be from the same family or colors that have the same depth or tone - like pastel green over pastel blue.

SPONGING OFF - is the faux technique whereby color is applied onto the surface and then immediately lifted off with the sponge [plastic bag - bagging off]. Sponging off give a softer, more subtle effect than sponging on.

Bagging creates a coarser, more dynamic impression on the surface than sponging.

Stenciling and Ragging

RAGGING ON - WHEN COLOR IS APPLIEDBY DIPPING A BUNCHED UP RAG {CAN BE OLD t-shirt} INTO PAINT, AND THEN RANDOMLY DABBING IT OR ROLLING IT ONTO THE SURFACE {AS SPONGING or bagging on}. Best suggestion would be to choose colors that are close to each other, and the base should be lighter than ragged color.

RAGGING OFF - the paint you applied onto the surface must be still wet so you can freely manipulate and remove the paint by twisting up a rag and dabbing it or rolling it over the surface to create random impressions in the paint. Mixing totaly different colors should be avoided, as that would give too sharp look. Dark colors over lighter tone on the same color would give a dramatic look. Soft colors over whit base will create the look of an old wall.
